Job Description

Based: This is a full time, permanent role based in Cambridge/home (based in the Cambridge office at least 3 days a week)
Reports to: Head of Advocacy and Influencing
Salary: £29,374 p.a. (Band Level 3)
Purpose: To support CBM UK’s evidence and learning, advocacy and influencing work in support of our commitment to promoting the rights of people with disabilities in development and humanitarian action. As part of a strategy to further increase our impact, we are seeking a strong writer with excellent research skills and a keen interest in strategic communications.

Learning, Research and Policy
1.Work with Head of Advocacy and Influencing to support the implementation of CBS UK’s Advocacy and Influencing strategy

2.Review policy environment, conducting research and analysing UK government international policy on disability and human rights

3.Identify and research current and potential sources of evidence in areas of theCBM Strategy (both from within and outside CBM), taking into consideration sector trends and developments, including new methodologies, innovations and best practice

4.Identify and research current and potential partners, stakeholders and networks,including relevant NGOs research and academic institutions, UK and international networks

5.Translate evidence from our programming countries and projects to produce and contribute to a range of copy to influence FCDO and other stakeholders e.g. policy and position papers, submissions, briefing notes,blogs etc.

6.Support Head of Advocacy and Influencing to develop a structured approach to maximizing opportunities for future learning and sharing of good practice,including with drafting technical advisory funding applications and capacity statements

7.Support partners in the documentation of case studies, best practices and lessons learned, and the planning and implementation of research

8.Liaise with CBM’s Global Advocacy team, keep up to date with new developmentin the field of disability inclusive development and ensure this is disseminated to relevant staff within CBM UK

9.Participate in and build good relationships with UK-based disability and development networks, including membership of the BOND Disability andDevelopment Group

10.Carry out research and provide content for the Head of Advocacy &Influencing and the CEO, where appropriate

Communications and Evidence
1.Establish meaningful exchanges that are at the centre of learning, sharing and managing evidence, including producing a range of copy e.g. blogs, news articles and social media posts, and contribute to similar wider initiatives

2.Manage research and policy information by developing and collecting materials from a variety of sources and making them accessible to a wider range of audiences

3.Set up and manage a simple, easily accessible, knowledge management system,which records evidence of resources on inclusion and related areas, to be used by the Influencing, Programmes and Fundraising & Communications teams

4.Increase rights based focus of communications to support individual campaigns

5.Work with Fundraising & Communications staff to identify potential media stories, case studies and compelling evidence from the field for advocacy purposes

6.Working with the Head of Programme Funding, provide input on proposal development to maximise strategic evidence generation through project evaluation/research design

7.Provide technical support to the Programmes team in the development of proposals for new grant funded research projects and during the management of a small portfolio of research focused programmes

8.Provide specialist technical support to improve programme related research,evidence and data collection

9.Ensure Programmes Team is aware of cutting-edge research and policy that has implications for our programmes and funding, and work with colleagues to ensure that funding bids are in line with global priorities including the SDGs and COPD

10.Contribute to CBM Global’s advocacy strategy, and influence its direction to ensure relevance to the UK context

1.Identify opportunities to initiate and contribute to new initiatives and events, both within CBM UK and externally

2.Provide briefings and analysis for the CEO, and other Leadership Team members where appropriate

3.Other duties as required by the Head of Advocacy and Influencing or the CEO
