Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

Director of Technology

Citizens Advice is hiring a Director of Technology, a vital role helping us use digital technologies and methods to help people overcome problems in their lives. This role will oversee our technology strategy and line manage our capabilities in software engineering, devops, infrastructure, security, and technology operations. The role sits on our wider leadership team, helping to run one of the UK’s most important charities as part of a close-knit and collaborative digital, technology, and data function.

Citizens Advice is needed more than ever as demand for advice rises as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, our service faces huge challenges as we shift all advice to remote provision, further increasing the importance of best-in-class digital technology.

Our Director of Technology will help us to:
Complete our exit from legacy technologies and siloed systems, and continue our migration into AWS
Scale up our capability in technical architecture, and build communities of practice for software engineering and devops
Build on the growing success of our multidisciplinary product teams
Lead our technical strategy for telephony and webchat platforms
Better integrate our case management systems and the data that sits behind our various platforms and products
Evolve our security practices and culture to enable agility and proportionately manage risk

You will be dedicated to internet-era ways of working: starting with user needs, focusing on delivery and outcomes over process, and working in the open. You will be able to evidence your commitment to diversity and inclusion in the way you recruit and build teams and in your approach to accessible digital services.

You will have experience driving transformation in big organisations, not just changing the technology stack but making the organisation as a whole more effective. You will be a bold and humble leader, and a forward-thinking and accomplished technical leader with a track record that includes leading custom software projects and ensuring strong commercial relationships.

We are a diverse and inclusive organisation and we particularly welcome applications from black, asian and ethnic minority people. We're also a flexible employer, so this role would suit working parents or people returning to work after raising children. We offer a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled people. We also welcome applications from, LGB and Trans and non binary candidates.

We are a member of the race equality campaign at Business in the Community and the Prince’s responsible business network.

REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT:
If you have a disability we will try our best to make reasonable adjustments to remove any barriers to this post in the application / interview process due to a disability.
