UK Health Security Agency: Non-Executive Member or Audit and Risk Committee Chair

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is looking to appoint a new Non-Executive Member (NEM) to the board of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and who will be responsible for Chairing UKHSA’s Audit and Risk Committee.

UKHSA is responsible for protecting the nation from the impact of infectious diseases, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents, and other health threats. It provides intellectual, scientific, and operational leadership at a national and local level, as well as on the global stage, to make the nation's health secure.

The role of UKHSA’s NEMs is to provide independent, constructive challenge to enable the Board to achieve its responsibilities. This includes contributing to the development of the Agency’s strategic direction and objectives; advising the Executive on delivery; contributing to the governance of the Agency; monitoring organisational performance; and acting as an ambassador for the Agency with stakeholders.

Candidates will have a career track record of achievement, including in a significant senior financial role in either the private or public sector, and be able to operate effectively on the board of a major national organisation.    
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate interest in the work of UKHSA; excellent communication skills; sound judgement; experience of strategic thinking; and an ability to scrutinise and challenge complex proposals constructively. 

Remuneration will be £13,137 per annum and for a time commitment of two to three days per month. The Secretary of State determines the length of appointment, which may be for up to a maximum of 3 years.
