Role summary

• You will be a lay member on the Committee on Standards.
• The committee checks if Members of Parliament (MPs) follow rules called the Code of Conduct.
• You will help decide if MPs have done something wrong and suggest actions.
• Lay members are people from the public, not MPs.
• You will work with MPs and have voting rights.
• The role lasts 6 years with about 3 to 4 days of work each month.
• One appointment starts November 2026, another in June 2027.

Skills and experience

• Be able to make decisions on sensitive and difficult issues.
• Able to look at a lot of information and make fair judgments.
• Experience working in complex places to improve rules or policies.
• Care about public standards and democracy.
• Understand how MPs work.
• Have strong honesty and good communication skills.

Location and workplace

• Work with the Committee on Standards for the House of Commons.
• Meetings may be in person or online.
