The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) was established in 2019 with the mission to help people live the best lives they can through social prescribing. Social prescribing works alongside traditional healthcare to resolve issues that contribute to poor health and quality of life. Our work includes connecting the social prescribing system, creating innovative partnerships, boosting investment, building the evidence base, and raising the profile of social prescribing, all with the values of belonging, collaboration, ambition, curiosity and integrity. Over the last 5 years, social prescribing has made a huge contribution to the nation’s health and wellbeing, and we are at the forefront of this development in England and across the world.

As the charity continues its significant growth in scale and impact, we know that we must continue to innovate, change, and adapt, as reflected in our ambitious 2023-2026 strategy. NASP is now looking for an inspirational leader to join our board as Chair and guide the organisation through the next phase of our development. The Chair will provide effective leadership to a high calibre and engaged group of trustees, ensuring a high standard of good governance is maintained. We are looking for a highly effective communicator who will quickly build relationships across the organisation as well as act as a visible and passionate ambassador for the charity with key external stakeholders including central government and health and social care. Candidates will be established senior leaders from the public, private or not-for profit sectors comfortable advocating for and representing the charity at the highest levels, with an understanding of and ability to navigate our complex stakeholder landscape. They will be motivated by a deep passion for NASP’s mission with the energy and commitment to advocate for NASP’s work and social prescribing at all levels. The time commitment for the Chair role is 2-3 days per month.

In addition, we are also looking to appoint a new Finance Trustee, and Chair of the Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk Committee, with a time commitment of 1-2 days per month. As a trustee, you will be jointly responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of NASP and ensure that NASP has sufficient resources to deliver our mission. The successful candidate will bring strategic finance experience from the highest level, with a strategic and commercial approach, alongside broad expertise at board level, and a knowledge of corporate governance and risk.

These are exciting opportunities to join an ambitious charity with an international agenda, that is developing and delivering a number of hugely successful global, national and regional programmes to meet our aims. We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity and welcome applicants from a diverse range of individuals.
