About the Role
This is a key role that helps deliver an efficient and effective in-house legal service for OS, contributing to the effective management of OS's legal risk environment. This role supports the Head of Legal Services in ensuring the provision of a high-quality service by the Legal Services team as a whole. In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring the provision of a high quality administrative and support function within the Legal Service team. In more detail, this includes the following responsibilities:
Supporting the Head of Legal Services in ensuring the provision of a high-quality service by the Legal Services team as a whole. This includes the following functions:
Monitoring and managing demand for Legal Services and progress against team targets
Day-to-day management of team budgets and expenditure
On-going review of external Legal Services Panel
Co-ordinating and arranging training requirements and legal know how resources
Organisation-wide change projects (e.g. records management; technology, system and process changes)
Regularly liaising with colleagues in relation to audit requirements, company secretarial matters, business continuity planning and risk management
Supporting with Solicitors Regulatory Authority compliance and Practising certificate requirements
Identifying and proposing opportunities for continuous service improvement
Leading the Legal Services support and administration function within the Legal Services team. The support and admin team carries out a range of important functions including the following:
Acting as a primary point of contact for OS colleagues who need legal advice and assistance.
Managing and administering the legal instruction system; managing enquiries and ensuring clarity of instructions, objectives and related information; liaising with and helping to manage engagements with our external legal advisors.
Supporting in-house lawyers through information gathering, contract and document production and management; providing support for Ordnance Survey’s Freedom of Information Officer where required.
Updating and maintaining legal resources (e.g. precedents, records management, know-how, standard documents, subscription services, invoicing).
Completing and reviewing standard legal contracts, and non-standard legal contracts under supervision.
What we’re looking for:
A team player and motivated self-starter with a “can do” attitude
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Excellent IT skills, including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel etc)
Experience of leading and/or managing service delivery in a professional services environment, preferably within legal service provision
Ability to identify potential issues, confidential / sensitive information, improvement to systems / processes
Preferably, some experience and /or outline knowledge of the principles of contract law, contract review and drafting

Salary – £36,414 to £40,698
