Employer of the week
Closing Date: Wednesday 12th May
At Direct Line Group, we’re passionate about a lot of things – especially our people. And that’s why our internal communications are so important to us. Our Internal Communications team is here to bring the DLG vision and purpose to life for all our people, in a creative and meaningful way. From running Festivals; to sharing stories; to connecting people with our leaders; to celebrating the good stuff and supporting people through the tough stuff – there’s never a dull moment when you’re helping to transform a business. And of course, there’s also the small matter of helping our people get their heads around a whole new way of working in the coming months.
What we're looking for
Are you an energetic and experienced internal communications professional with an excellent background in editorial, planning and channels management? If so, have we got a challenge for you!
We’re looking for someone to develop and own our internal communications plan – working with the wider team to create a forward-looking view of all our activity. You’ll also lead the creation and delivery of our regular editorial activity – introducing a newsroom style approach to developing content in a variety of formats, sharing stories and perspectives from across DLG and bringing our strategy and culture to life.
And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also be responsible for managing and developing our channels – working with your team to make the most of our existing channels and exploring ways to build on them.
Leading a team of three people, you’ll be the kind of person who gets a buzz coaching and developing others – building a fun and collaborative environment where people can flourish and grow. And you’ll build a strong network of relationships throughout the business to help cut through the complexity and make things happen quickly.
What you'll be doing:
Work with the wider team to proactively determine the activity within the strategic plan and ensure it reflects the DLG strategic objectives, employee value proposition, culture and behaviours.
Work closely with colleagues across Internal Comms, as well as the wider HR team, to ensure that people change activity is reflected in the strategic internal communications plan. Work with them to challenge the co-ordination and timing of people change communications where necessary to align messages more broadly across the group.
Lead and empower a successful internal communications hub; coaching, developing and inspiring them to deepen their skills, capability and experience.
Manage the resourcing of the internal communications hub to ensure they are supporting a breadth of activity across the wider team – the day-to-day delivery of the strategic internal communications plan; supporting campaigns and change activity and providing counsel and advice to the wider business where appropriate.
Lead a ‘newsroom’ style approach to editorial planning; building a regular schedule of brainstorming meetings for creative content generation and allocating projects; encouraging the hub to seek out stories.
Responsible for the generation of creative and engaging content to support the over-arching narrative and bring our DLG strategy, employee value proposition and cultures to life, across a broad range of channels. Provide the oversight to ensure the quality of content.
Own the day-to-day management of our channels; seek out opportunities to improve and build on them.
Who you’ll be working with:
You’ll be working within the Internal Communications team, reporting to Clare McKenna, the Head of Internal Communications and working collaboratively alongside three other Senior Internal Communication Managers. You’ll lead a hub of internal comms professionals and manage how they to support the wider team’s activity.
You’ll build strong relationships across all areas of the business, getting to know our audiences, our content owners, our influencers, our enablers and our leaders.
