Mail Newspapers Technology is the Information Technology provider for media companies within the DMGT Group (Daily Mail & General Trust). We are seeking a suitable candidate to join our Infrastructure Team. It is desirable the candidate will have a wide range of Infrastructure related skills and have worked within a large corporate IT environment with a large complex technology deployment.

The Infrastructure team are responsible for key underpinning technologies including Unix/VMware/Enterprise Storage/VDI/Web Tech (AWS)/Oracle/SQL. You will become part of a team of permanent staff sometimes working alongside external resources for key projects and deliverables aligning to strategy. The role will report into the Infrastructure Manager.

Role Description / Responsibilities

The candidate will have good knowledge of supporting an enterprise environment that is mission critical. Role is based out of our Kensington, London office. A minimum of three years in supporting an enterprise environment is preferred. The candidate will be an excellent communicator, methodical and motivated. They will possess the ability to ensure set objectives delivered within tight timescales and with proven results in an ITIL driven environment where key production services need to remain stable and efficient at all times. We are looking for a well-drilled individual, flexible in approach to diverse tasks and a very broad, yet working to always improve and take on challenges that might be outside of their comfort zone. The candidate will;

Confident in managing virtual platforms and the underpinning services such as Enterprise Storage, SD-Networking.
Confident in managing peripheral infrastructure services such as Backup/Restore, non-native monitoring, Hardware monitoring, Device42 to name a few.
Provide technology insight and support to key management staff and peers.
Have the ability to manage tasks to tight deadlines and mange upwards regular updates and managing expectations accordingly.
Be keen to seek certification/qualification in relevant disciplines.
Have a good understanding of VMware, EMC and/or AWS cloud and other IASS solutions.
Be keen to develop scripting capability and API integration in one or more popular languages. (Ansible/Shell/Python/Pear/JavaScript)
Act as a technical escalation point for the applications owners to resolve issues swiftly, and find root cause and mitigate from happening again had too better improve service(s) we deliver.
Understand and work towards a strategy set out by senior management ensuring we adhere to direction and execute tasks based on priority to meet strategy deadlines.
Have the drive to constantly improve and try out new technology offerings to improve Operational efficiency and execution.
Constantly improve functional monitoring and non-functional monitoring of the infrastructure, to head off any issue that might occur.
Be responsible for patching the infrastructure in accordance with security policy.
Be flexible when it comes to out of hours support. You will be required to be on-call evening and weekends as you will form part of an on-call system for escalating to out of core working hours and ask to carry out change controls in agreed business maintenance windows.
Technical Skills


Good understanding of VMware, preferably certified.
Good understanding of Dell/EMC Enterprise Storage, preferably certified.
Microsoft and Unix administration experience. (Redhat/Amazon linux)
Performance analysis and tuning, using built-in analysers tools to highlighting issues and bottle necks
Understanding in high availability, backup and DR approaches/processes.
A proven track record in an Operational support capacity with good understanding of processes like incident, request, change and problem (ITIL)
Understanding of security threats and methods to mitigate against them.
Exposure to AWS Eco system and familiarity with underpinning technologies in that environment.
Scripting skills to support automation of Infrastructure related tasks.

Proven history in automating tasks and working with automation engines.
Ansible or SCCM administration.

Further Responsibilities

Investigating and resolving incidents assigned to the infrastructure services team and ensuring incidents closed in a timely fashion to meet defined IT Services Levels.

Ensuring in house knowledge documentation used by Infrastructure teams is up to date within ServiceNow.

Providing clear, accurate and timely updates to the customer with the progress of any incident resolution.

Providing the IT Helpdesk with information about incidents and problems to assist with the identification and

tracking of common and re-occurring issues.

The planning and delivery of all patches, maintenance releases and all major product enhancement releases to

infrastructure components, ensuring changes to the infrastructure are managed by following the Change Management

process to ensure that the live environment is protected at all times.

Ensure adherence to all IT policies, architectural standards and guidelines, operational processes and procedures

including relevant build and security standards.

Identify and manage problems assigned to you by mangers to conclusion

Identifying and managing key risks within Infrastructure Services.




The candidate must be flexible to travel (infrequently) to and work from any of our offices around the UK mainland where required, role is based from London, but you may be required to travel infrequently.
The IT team is required to work flexible hours to ensure systems are operational at all times required by the business. Work hours will be 9am-5pm with ability to request flexible hours.
