Job Description

Young People Support Worker

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Permanent, Part Time (30 hpw)

Salary circa £18,200 pa pro rata, plus brilliant benefits!

Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home!

We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. Our service supports young people aged 16 - 24 years old, who are identified as having a housing need and/or additional support needs.

This means we work with young people who may recently have left care, or those who may have been made homeless. We support our customers to develop and maintain independent living skills, so that they can successfully move on to their own independent accommodation. Our customers aren’t always the easiest to work with, they can have some very complex and challenging support needs, but this role is hugely rewarding.

Our service is spread over 5 properties in Gloucester and Cheltenham, and you’ll be based at our three properties in Cheltenham. Our Cotswold House and Jenner Court projects support single young people and Waterloo Street is our young parents’ project. Your role will be to offer support to customers and colleagues across all three, so it is essential that you are a driver with access to your own vehicle.

We help our customers to change their lives and support them to work towards achieving their aspirations. We deliver the support that has been identified, in the individual plans that have been created in partnership with our support coordinators and customers. What we can tell you is that each day is totally different, so if you’re looking for a calm stable role, then this is not the job for you!

If you thrive on a challenge, where each day is different, where you can influence a young person to make lasting changes to their lives, then keep reading! One day you might be supporting them to shop on a budget or to prepare healthy meals, the next you might be helping them at a probation or substance abuse support meeting.

You’ll work in partnership with our external partners and with your Home Group colleagues to assess and engaging support for your customers.  Together you’ll really make a difference, and work towards helping your customers successfully move on with a positive future.

About our team

You’ll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. Kate is our newly recruited service manager, who joined the business only last year (so she knows what it’s like to be the new kid on the block!). Outside of work, Kate doesn’t have much time for too much else other than running after her 2 almost teenagers!

There are 14 of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re here to support each other too! Your colleagues have a wealth of experience in supported housing and are looking forward to welcoming you to the team!

Working hours

You’ll work on a rota basis between the hours of 7:45am - 8:15pm and take your turn working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The good news is that we are happy to work with you, to agree a pattern that works for you and us! We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you! While we are working in a Covid world, there is a bit of home working involved, and we will give you the kit to make that work.

About you

You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. You have some experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.

We help change our customer’s lives for the better. You’ll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers personal support plans, and their needs and aspirations. You’ll work with our Support Coordinators and external agencies to assess and engage support for our customers.

To keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)

It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!

As you will need to travel to our different properties, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes. Don’t worry, we’ll pay you expenses to cover this use!

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
