We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join the Family Team with the Birmingham Carers Service. Ideally you will have experience working with children and young people with a wide range of support needs. We offer one to one support and group sessions. You will ideally have experience building positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
 
You will be responsible for a case load of young carers who provide emotional and physical support to a family member or guardian with a Mental Health need. You will need to be able to work to tight deadlines and be willing to go the extra mile. You will also be required to facilitate groups and activity sessions where you will be required to motivate, engage and support young carers, to ensure they are able to have a break from their caring responsibilities.
 
Your role will involve working across different locations, such as schools and children’s centres, where you will work in close partnership with Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Mental Health Services and Pastoral and Inclusion workers within schools. You will be required to attend Child in Need and Child Protection Conferences, where you will be representing the Young Carer and will need to convey their thought and feelings. This role would be ideal for someone who is looking to work within a flexible, fast paced service where quality outcomes need to be achieved within set timescales.
 
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work within a centralised team which will be based across Birmingham.
     
You will be part of a diverse team and will have the skills to build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal colleagues and it is vital that you are able to work collaboratively with peers and their teams in order to achieve outcomes.
 
It’s really important to us that you have time to what you are really care about; changing clients lives for the better.  So to free up your time, you’ll be given the latest IT kit, which could include a Surface Pro tablet and smart phone, supported by our new online integrated IT system which means that you don’t have to be in the office as you can complete support plans on the go.  You’ll also be paid between clients visit and for your mileage too.  
 
About you
We want someone like you, with the passion and motivation for helping vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives.  To flourish in the role, you’ll have a practical understanding of safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality and support plans. You’ll be great at managing your own time, working on your own initiative, have strong communication skills and be able to positively influence people from all different backgrounds.  It’s important to us that you have the compassion and empathy to work with vulnerable people in a housing related social care setting and we do need you to also have good IT skills too.
 
We’ll be impressed if you have knowledge of this sector, our client group and experience of working with hard to reach clients, but don’t worry as we’ll also develop your skills in this too.   

You will need to be flexible and adaptable in your approach and have strong communication skills. In return successful candidates will be given the opportunity to gain experience working with a diverse range of client groups in both accommodation and floating support services.
 
You will be required to work alongside clients/families or children and young people in a person-centred way and help them actively move towards living independently of services.
 
Car owner/drivers are not essential but may be advantageous as the Birmingham area is extensive and workers must be open to traveling to provide cover for whole Midlands business area.
 
You will need strong organisational and communication skills and have the ability to foster positive working relationships and the drive and ambition to deliver consistent high-quality working practices which meet the needs of our services and clients.
    
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
