What the Team does;
Based at our European Headquarters just South of Cambridge on Granta Park we require a talented Software Engineer ideally with a few year's experience to join the Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) department on a permanent basis. You will have the opportunity of working closely with the US company, Bioinformatics and lab operations. Illumina Laboratory Services department (ILS) are there to ensure the labs are running efficiently and therefore ensuring the software is being supported. The team builds software used by scientists to track and process large quantities of clinical genomic data and was instrumental in delivering the 100,000 genomes project. Building on this success, ILS is entering the next phase to deliver whole genome DNA sequencing into routine healthcare in partnership with Genomics England and the NHS. To help achieve this, the software team is expanding to support the development and maintenance of the software that manages laboratory operations.
What the role is;
As a Software Engineer, you will be involved working with custom build software to enable rapid turnaround. The role will be very reactive therefore you will need to think outside the box. You will work closely with the Software Test Engineers.
What the responsibilities include;
Collaborate with product owners, developers and test engineers to design, implement, and maintain full-stack applications and services in scrum teams.
Review software requirements, designs and code changes to ensure alignment with user needs and design inputs.
Be an advocate for our SDLC and ensure that software is developed in compliance with our quality management system and medical device standards.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate suitability of new software technologies to platform development efforts.
Provide technical assistance to escalated operational issues.
What you need for the role;
The successful candidate should ideally be degree qualified within computer science or equivalent. Candidates ideally be competent working with Python, web development and deployment and orchestration using Docker. Should you have experience working within a regulated industry such as military, pharma, medical devices, biotech would be an advantage (finance departments could work too).
