The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) finds and funds exploitable innovations to support UK defence and security quickly and effectively, and support UK prosperity. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Operations team as the DASA Assessor Manager. The DASA Operations team are responsible for delivery of a range of funding competitions for Government customers including the Open Call for Innovation and Themed Competitions. All DASA funding competitions require expert assessment from a range of assessors from across government. The Assessor Manager holds responsibility for managing the relationships with all our assessors and increasing the number of assessors who are fully trained and ready to complete assessments. They will also work with Government customers to raise awareness of DASA assessment opportunities and identify individuals who have sufficient expertise to assess the desirability, feasibility or viability of potential innovation projects. You will be supported by the other DASA staff, including Operations, Partnerships and Impact, Outreach and Shared Services, to develop an appropriate strategy for building our assessor pool and ensuring the continued improvement of assessment processes.

Job description

In this role you will:
• Design and deliver an assessor awareness and engagement strategy.
• Undertake engagement with, and management of, defence and security customers and stakeholders relevant to your tasks.
• Manage delivery of the overall assessor service from bringing in new assessors and improving the assessment process and guidance to ensuring appropriate monitoring and reporting.
• Work with the Operations Team to identify gaps in the assessor pool for new competitions and establish routes to build the assessor pool and fill the gaps.
• Work with our Partnerships & Impacts team to identify assessors across defence and security and deliver training sessions as required.
• Work with our Support Services team to ensure events, communications and analytics are integrated in to the assessor strategy.
• Work at pace and to tight deadlines to achieve what is required of this role, whilst maintaining close, trusting relationships with those you work with.

Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who has:
• People skills: to develop good working relationships with our assessors; to understand the needs of those individuals and groups across our assessor network; and to help them to get the most out of their engagement with DASA.
• A passion for innovation: an ability to spot areas of mutual interest across customers in order to build our assessor pool and avoid duplication of effort.
• Organisational skills, leaderships skills and enthusiasm: to develop and deliver a strategy for assessor awareness and engagement.
• Communication skills: to deliver assessor awareness presentations at events and on webinars; to develop publishable content for our website; to provide clear and defendable guidance and feedback such as assessor guidance and training; to brief the Delivery Leads, Senior Management Team and key stakeholders.
• The ability to balance the delivery of a longer term assessor awareness strategy with the ability to react to quick-turnaround challenges; for example assessors having issues with delivering assessments.
• Good reflective and creative skills to suggest improvements to current processes and contribute to the development of novel service offerings.
• The ability to be a team player and contribute to the development of the team including the directing and mentoring others when required. 

Essential:
• Experience of working with a wide range of internal and external customers / stakeholders.
• Evidence of working effectively within a team.
• Experience of influencing others across organisational boundaries to achieve successful outcomes
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to a range of audiences from internal technical audiences through to senior government stakeholders
• Experience of working to deadlines and prioritising tasks.
• Experience and knowledge of UK Government organisations and their responsibilities.
• Inspiring small teams, challenging norms and developing a dynamic operational culture.
• Management of projects and complex tasks, and delivery to time, cost and quality.
• Supervision of others (including tasking, delegating and providing guidance). 

Desirable:
• Knowledge of the UK defence and security environment.
• Experience of running science and technology funding competitions and/or events
• Experience of working within the UK research and innovation ecosystem

Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.
