We have a fantastic opportunity for a brilliant Support Worker like you to join our fab and supportive team at Birmingham UPS. Our service provides support to customers with mental health needs as part of a floating support setting, where you will be going into customers’ homes and in the community to meet their support needs. Our team describe themselves as really friendly and approachable. In fact, when new members have joined us in the past, it’s been said that they felt welcomed by colleagues and our customers from day one.
We deliver bespoke support to our customers in order to promote their independence to reach their goals and fulfil their ambitions. We use a support model which enables us to take positive calculated risks, ensuring our customers have a voice and a choice in all aspects of their support. We focus on what our customers can do, and step in to support when that extra bit of encouragement is required. The team will tell you that no two days are ever the same because everything we do is “person centred”.

About our team

Our manager is Taranjit, who has been managing services for vulnerable customer groups including customer groups with mental health for 20 years and has been a Manager at Home Group for over 10 years. There are 11 of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! You will be joining our coordinator Shaunna and a team of Support Workers Nima, Sherbaz and Shannon, who all have unique skills, personalities and ideas. Our team is linked in to our accommodation based service, who also have a dedicated coordinator Carrie and Support Workers Alex, Sally and Ikra, all with excellent experience, so you are in safe hands.
Working hours 
Our Floating Support service works Monday-Friday 9am-5pm – however there is an expectation to work flexibly to meet the needs of customers. You may also want to gain some experience in our accommodation based service and pick up the odd shift there. 
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank.  You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.
About you
You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. You will have some experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.
We help change our customers’ lives for the better. You’ll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers’ personal support plans, and their needs and aspirations. You’ll work with our Support Coordinators and external agencies to assess and engage support for our customers. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together we’ll make a difference! To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)
If you’re not the biggest fan of technology, that’s not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However we’re glad to support you, if you need help.  
To make sure our customers are well supported, it’s important that you have worked in a supported housing or floating support and have experience of working within mental health services. Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll help to you understand how things work at Home Group!
It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!
As this is a community based role, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes. Don’t worry, we’ll pay you expenses to cover this use!
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
